[Study] The Golf Brands That Won The Most US Open Titles

Last updated: May 23, 2021

What’s in the winners’ bag of major tournaments is always an intriguing subject. We were curious about what kind of equipment, specifically which brands and models, have US Open winners have used over the years.

And which of those have won the most US Open Championship titles.

Our team gathered information about what’s in the winners’ bag of the past 20 US Open golf champions and stumbled upon some interesting findings. This equipment includes their golf clubs like the driver, fairway woods, irons, wedges, putters, and golf balls.

Most professionals have signed deals with specific brands for their equipment. Yet, some of these brands have found their way into the US Open winners’ bags in different years. These brands, and more importantly, some specific products, have repeated themselves frequently.

Mechanics of the Study

  • We considered the winners from the year 2000 to the most recent US Open winner of 2020.
  • We collected data from credible sources such as the official PGA Tour Website, Golf Monthly, Golf Channel, and Golf WRX
  • No data was available for the 2005 US Open winner, Michael Campbell. So we have not considered that year in our analysis.

Interesting Findings About Equipment Brands At The US Open Championships

Some of the equipment has repeatedly made its way into the US Open winners’ bags over the years. Here are some of the most intriguing patterns that our team has discovered.

1. Mix Bag

Interestingly, six winners have used a combination of Titleist Pro V1 golf balls, Titleist Vokey wedges, and Scotty Cameron putters. All three of these brands are owned by the Acushnet Company. Most recently, this combination of equipment was used by 2019 US Open Championship winner Gary Woodland.

2. The Love for Titleist Products

Thirteen winners have used at least one Titleist product. This includes all the different types of golf clubs and golf balls.

3. The Special Case of Bryson Dechambeau and Graeme McDowell

Nearly all of the winners have used at least a part of their equipment from these four brands – Titleist, TaylorMade, Scotty Cameron, and Nike.

Only two winners, Bryson Dechambeau and Graeme McDowell, have used entirely different brands for their equipment.

Graeme McDowell used Callaway merchandise, while Bryson Dechambeau has used multiple brands, including Cobra Golf, SIK Golf, Artisan Golf, and Bridgestone.
