Hybrid Golf Clubs Are More Popular Among LPGA Professionals

Hybrid golf clubs have become immensely popular among the amateur golfing community. Top-level professional golfers also share this affinity towards hybrid golf clubs, however, to a certain extent. You can read more about it here.

In our previous study, we chose the top 50 golfers (as per official world golf rankings) and shortlisted those who used hybrid golf clubs. We also analyzed the club model they’re using, among other aspects.

Building on that research, our team of analysts looked closely at LPGA professionals and came across something unusual. We used the same methodology earlier and chose the top 50 LPGA as our sample size.

Up on further investigation, we found that hybrid golf clubs are far more prevalent among women golf pros than men’s golf pros.

Findings

  • 14 (28%) of the top 50 PGA professionals use hybrid golf clubs.
  • In contrast, 27 (54%) of the top 50 LPGA professionals use hybrid golf clubs. This is nearly double the number of PGA professionals who use hybrids.
  • Only 1 of the top 10 PGA pros uses hybrid clubs. None of the top 5 PGA pros use hybrid clubs.
  • Meanwhile, all of the top 3, 4 of the top 5, and 6 of the top 10 LPGA pros use hybrid clubs.
  • These numbers are a clear indication that hybrid golf clubs are more popular among women golfers than men golfers.

Most Used brands 

  • Titleist is the most used brand for PGA pros (7 players or 50 %), followed by Callaway with 4 players, and PING with 2 players.
  • Simultaneously, PING is by far the most popular brand for LPGA pros as 10 out of the 27 players prefer it ( 37%). PXG is next in line with 4 players, followed by Titleist and Callaway hybrids with 3 players each.

Most Used Model

  • Titleist 818H2 Hybrid and PING G425 Hybrid are the most used hybrids for PGA professionals with 2 users each.
  • PING G425 is the most popular hybrid model for LPGA pros with 5 users (including the world number 1 Nelly Korda).
